Intro

Rheinmetall AG is a German defence and security group based in Düsseldorf. It makes military vehicles, weapons and ammunition, air defence systems and defence electronics. In 2025 it reported Vehicle Systems, Weapon and Ammunition and Electronic Solutions segments. From 1 January 2026 it added Air Defence, Digital Systems and Naval Systems divisions, the last following its acquisition of the shipbuilder NVL.

The company was founded in April 1889 as Rheinische Metallwaren- und Maschinenfabrik AG. According to Rheinmetall, its shares were first listed on 14 November 1894. They trade on Xetra and other German exchanges in the Prime Standard segment, and the company is a member of the DAX and EURO STOXX 50 indices.

Its uncrewed ground vehicles are the Mission Master family, shown with the PATH autonomy kit developed by Rheinmetall Canada. Its aerial systems include the LUNA NG reconnaissance system (introduced to the German armed forces as HUSAR), the FV-014 loitering munition and the RV-005 interceptor drone. It also produces HERO loitering munitions, a product line of the Israeli company UVision Air. Under a partnership signed in October 2021, Rheinmetall's Italian subsidiary RWM Italia manufactures and distributes HERO systems in Europe with UVision's support, at sites in Sardinia.

For 2025 Rheinmetall reported sales of €9,935 million, an operating result of €1,841 million and an order backlog of €63.8 billion including framework agreements. It states that around 34,000 people work for the group (May 2026, continuing operations).

Robots

  • Mission Master SP2: compact, battery-powered autonomous ground vehicle for dismounted soldiers, with amphibious capability.
  • Mission Master CXT2: hybrid diesel-electric ground vehicle with a 1,000 kg payload and 450 km total range, transportable in CH-47, CH-53 and C-130 aircraft.
  • Mission Master XT2: ground vehicle for harsh and arctic terrain with a 1,000 kg payload and 750 km range without refuelling.
  • PATH autonomy kit: autonomy kit developed by Rheinmetall Canada, presented with the Mission Master family.
  • LUNA NG: reconnaissance uncrewed aircraft system, introduced to the German armed forces as HUSAR.
  • FV-014: loitering munition that keeps an operator in the decision loop. Qualification was planned for September 2026.
  • RV-005: interceptor drone for countering hostile drones.
  • HERO series: loitering munitions from UVision Air (Israel), produced in Italy by Rheinmetall subsidiary RWM Italia with UVision's support.

Specialism

  • Uncrewed ground vehicles: carrying loads, sensors and weapons for dismounted infantry units.
  • Reconnaissance drones: tactical aerial surveillance for armed forces.
  • Loitering munitions: uncrewed aircraft that observe a target area before an operator-approved strike.
  • Counter-drone: interceptor drones to protect military sites, critical infrastructure and large events.

Business Viability

  • Listing: Frankfurt (Xetra, Prime Standard) under RHM, a member of the DAX and EURO STOXX 50. First listed on 14 November 1894, according to the company.
  • Revenue: 2025 sales of €9,935 million, up 29%, with an operating result of €1,841 million (18.5% margin).
  • Order backlog: €63.8 billion at the end of 2025, including framework agreements, up from €46.9 billion.
  • Headcount: around 34,000 employees (May 2026, continuing operations), according to the company.
  • HERO order: in November 2025 an unnamed NATO customer ordered HERO systems worth a low three-digit million euro sum, with deliveries during 2026.
