Intro
The Phantom humanoid robot is Foundation Robotics’ first flagship humanoid platform, engineered with strength, fluidity, and real-world performance to handle tasks in environments designed for humans. Standing about 1.75 m tall and weighing around 80 kg, Phantom balances human-scale proportions with robust mechanical architecture. Its upper torso houses the core compute units, vision systems, and sensors, enabling rich sensory perception for navigation, manipulation, and environment interpretation.
Phantom’s lower body integrates advanced balance control and proprietary cycloid actuators that provide a combination of high torque (up to 160 Nm peak) and back-drivability below 1 Nm, meaning the robot can safely interact with humans and adjust motion under external forces. These actuators deliver performance comparable to hydraulic systems while harnessing the efficiency and cleanliness of electric drives, suitable for operating in human-dense settings.
With modular hardware design, Phantom’s upper and lower sections can be serviced or upgraded independently, supporting adaptability for a wide array of tasks. Its camera-first perception strategy (eschewing heavy LiDAR stacks) simplifies sensing while focusing on robust visual understanding in human environments. Combined with hybrid AI software that blends imitation learning, physics-aware models, and reinforcement learning, Phantom can perform dynamic motion tasks and is envisioned to evolve from human-teleoperated actions toward higher autonomy.
