Intro
Sprout is a lightweight, approachable humanoid robot that embodies Fauna Robotics’ mission to bring robots into human-centred spaces rather than industrial zones. With a height of 107 cm and weight of 22.7 kg, it’s compact and safe enough to stand next to people at eye level, even children, without the intimidation factor of larger industrial humanoids.
The robot’s exterior is soft-to-touch and padded, with minimized pinch points and compliant motor control that reduces kinetic impact during human interaction. Its fully articulated body includes 29 degrees of freedom (DoF), including active expressive eyebrows and a 360° facial LED array to convey emotion and social intent. Sprout’s manipulation system features robust grippers and a configuration designed for floor-to-counter reach, enabling it to perform tasks such as walking, crouching, crawling, and even dancing with built-in motion policies available right out of the box.
Under the hood, Sprout runs on an NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin (64 GB) compute module with a 1 TB SSD, ZED 2i stereo vision for depth perception, Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensors for obstacle avoidance, a 4-mic microphone array for audio interaction, and an IMU for motion estimation. Its modular autonomy stack includes integrated navigation, mapping, whole-body teleoperation, and expressive interaction features. The platform is supplied with a comprehensive SDK and APIs that support custom AI models and developer workflows, making it a powerful foundation for embodied AI research and human-robot interaction applications.
