Robot Brief

The Unitree A2 is an advanced quadruped robot designed for rugged industrial and field applications. Weighing about 37 kg (without batteries), it supports payloads up to 25 kg while maintaining high mobility and endurance. The A2 features a dual-battery system with hot-swappable 9,000 mAh batteries, providing up to 5 hours of operation unloaded and 3 hours with a full load, covering distances up to 20 km continuously on a single charge. Its aluminum alloy and engineering plastic construction provide an IP56 protection rating, while internal components boast IP67, enabling reliable operation from -20°C to 55°C. Featuring dual industrial LiDAR sensors (front and rear), HD camera, and advanced AI vision for autonomous obstacle avoidance and environment mapping, the A2 can tackle slopes up to 45°, climb one-meter-high obstacles, and negotiate steps approximately 30 cm high. This makes it a versatile platform for inspection, logistics, search and rescue, and R&D.

Use Cases

  • Agility and dynamic movement with speeds up to 5 m/s (11.1 mph).
  • Endurance for long missions with hot-swappable batteries enabling continuous operation.
  • Autonomous navigation and mapping using dual LiDAR and vision sensors.
  • Payload capability to carry humans onboard stationary or various loads during motion.
  • Operation in extreme conditions across wide temperature ranges.
  • Versatile terrain handling including stairs, slopes, and rough ground.

Industries

  • Industrial site inspection and monitoring.
  • Logistics and material transport in warehouses or outdoors.
  • Emergency response, search, and rescue missions.
  • Research and development for robotic locomotion and autonomy.

Intro

The A2 measures roughly 82 cm (height) by 44 cm (width) by 57 cm (length lying down). Constructed from aluminum alloy and high-strength plastics, it balances durability and lightness. It has 12 electric actuators powering its legs, each capable of producing 180 Nm torque for powerful and precise joint movements. A2 comes with two 9000 mAh batteries capable of hot swapping to enable 24/7 cycling in operational scenarios. Enhanced perception comes from two industrial-grade LiDAR units—one at the front and one at the rear—providing full 360° situational awareness. An HD camera supplemented by front LED light enhances navigation and obstacle detection in low light conditions. Communication tech includes Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and optional 4G and GPS modules.

Connectivity

  • Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 for wireless control and monitoring.
  • 4G LTE and GPS optional for extended remote operation.
  • USB-C ports and Gigabit Ethernet for rapid data transfer and device connectivity.

Capabilities

  • Maximum speed: 5 m/s (11.1 mph).
  • Obstacle climbing: steps up to 0.3 m; can climb slopes and hurdles up to 1 m high.
  • Endurance: 5 hours unloaded, 3 hours at payload; covers up to 20 km on a charge.
  • Payload: 25 kg moving, 100 kg stationary payload capacity.
  • IP protection: IP56 for outer shell, IP67 for core components.
  • Operating temperature range: -20°C to 55°C.
